Replacing a high-sided shower bath with a low-level walk-in shower and digital controls, allowing the water to warm before the customer steps inside.
The high side of the customer’s existing shower bath had become increasingly difficult to step over. The position of the bath tap also made entering
and leaving the bath feel awkward, as the customer had to take care not to catch it as they moved past.
They wanted a showering area with lower, more straightforward access and a way to turn the shower on before stepping inside. This would allow the
water to reach their preferred temperature in advance, so it would be ready when they entered.
The customer was also keen to retain their existing bathroom furniture and flooring, which remained in good condition and worked well for them. It
was therefore important that the new shower fitted carefully into the available space while keeping disruption to a minimum.
We planned the new installation around the space previously occupied by the bath, replacing it with a low-level walk-in shower.
The new shower tray was slightly shorter than the existing bath, allowing it to fit comfortably alongside the bathroom furniture. The remaining area was
neatly finished with a low-level shelf, creating a considered transition between the new shower and the retained parts of the bathroom.
To provide a generous entrance while helping to contain the water, we fitted a Conniston fixed glass screen with a pivoting deflector panel. The deflector can be folded neatly against the main screen when it is not needed, leaving the entrance clear and easy to navigate.
A digital shower valve with an external remote gave the customer the additional control they were looking for. The shower can be switched on or off from either inside or outside the showering area, allowing the customer to start the water before entering. A blue LED indicator on the valve and remote flashes while the water is warming, letting the customer know when it has reached their chosen temperature and is ready to use.
Although grab rails were not required at the time of the installation, we prepared and reinforced the showering area so that they can be fitted securely in the future if the customer’s needs change. This forward planning provides additional flexibility without requiring more extensive alterations later
The customer no longer needs to step over the high side of the bath or navigate around the awkwardly positioned tap.
They can now start the shower remotely, allow the water to reach their preferred temperature and enter through the generous opening when it is ready. The low-level anti-slip tray provides easier access and additional reassurance underfoot.
The showering area is also ready to accommodate securely fitted grab rails should the customer wish to add them in the future.
By retaining the existing furniture and flooring, the installation remained focused on the changes the customer needed. The new shower sits naturally
within the familiar bathroom, providing easier access and greater control without the disruption of a complete refurbishment.
