Replacing a difficult-to-access bath with a low-level walk-in shower, using thoughtful features to support greater visibility, comfort and independence.
Changes in the customer’s sight and mobility had made stepping over the side of their bath increasingly difficult. It no longer provided the access or
support they needed to shower comfortably and with confidence.
The customer wanted an easier-to-access showering area with supportive features that they could see clearly, reach comfortably and operate without
unnecessary difficulty. Most importantly, they wanted a solution that would help them continue showering independently
During our conversation with the customer, we considered much more than access alone. We looked at how they would enter the shower, locate and
hold the support rails, use the controls and sit comfortably when needed.
Using the space previously occupied by the bath, we installed a low-level anti-slip shower tray, a comfortable folding seat and a cool-touch
thermostatic electric shower with easy-grip lever controls.
Blue grab rails were deliberately chosen to provide a strong visual contrast against the surrounding surfaces. This made them easier for the customer
to identify than chrome or white rails, while ensuring support was available in the most helpful positions.
A Conniston fixed glass screen was paired with a pivoting deflector panel to help contain the water without restricting the entrance. The deflector folds
neatly against the main screen when it is not needed, leaving the opening clear and easy to navigate.
As the new shower was created within the area previously occupied by the bath, the remainder of the bathroom could be retained, helping to keep
disruption to a minimum.
The bath has been replaced with a low-level showering area and supportive features that are easier for the customer to see, reach and use.
The folding seat provides a comfortable place to sit, while the contrasting grab rails and easy-grip shower controls offer practical support throughout
their routine.
The finished shower has been tailored to the way the customer uses and navigates the space, helping them shower with greater confidence and
independence while fitting naturally into their existing bathroom.
